In the first sign of the New York Yankees front office having a pulse, they have reached out to the Diamondbacks about third baseman Eugenio Suarez, according to Jon Heyman of the New York Post. Suarez has long been linked to the Yankees and is considered the top third-base trade target potentially on the market.
Suarez, a former All-Star and proven power bat, could offer the Yankees the kind of steady glove and right-handed pop they’ve lacked at third base all season.
But there’s no guarantee he’ll be available.
Heyman notes that Arizona hasn’t decided whether to sell, at least not yet. And even if the Diamondbacks do make him available, the Yankees will have competition. The Mariners, Cubs, and several others are considered logical fits.
Still, the interest from New York makes sense.
Oswaldo Cabrera is out for the season, Jazz Chisholm Jr proved he is uncomfortable there and Oswald Peraza is a black hole in the lineup. The Yankees’ infield depth has been exposed more than once in 2025.
Suarez, 33, is having another All-Star year. He’s slashing .251/.322/.567 with 31 homers through 96 games. He even showed off some nifty defense in the All-Star Game last week.
The bigger question is whether Brian Cashman and the Yankees front office will be aggressive enough to outbid teams like Seattle or Chicago, especially for a player whose numbers this year may drive his price up.
As of now, this is just a check-in.
But with the deadline fast approaching, the Yankees are clearly kicking the tires on multiple scenarios. Suarez may not be the only option. But he’s officially on the radar.
