Cam Newton Didn't Hesitate to Name NFL's Top Quarterback

Buffalo Bills quarterback Josh Allen took home his first career NFL MVP award earlier this year, beating out Baltimore Ravens quarterback Lamar Jackson in one of the tightest races in years.

Another former league MVP apparently agreed with the decision.

Breaking down the NFL’s top quarterbacks on his “4th and 1” podcast, former Carolina Panthers quarterback Newton put Allen atop his Top 10 list with Jackson behind him at No. 2.

Newton followed with Kansas City Chiefs quarterback Patrick Mahomes at No. 3, Cincinnati Bengals quarterback Joe Burrow at No. 4, and Los Angeles Rams signal-caller Matthew Stafford at No. 5.

Newton has shared some love for Allen in the past, saying in March that he felt a kinship with the Bills quarterback due to the connections with former Panthers defensive coordinator and now Bills head coach Sean McDermott.

Newton added that he relates to the pressure that Allen is facing, needing to follow up his MVP season by finally breaking through and reaching the Super Bowl.

“If anybody can relate, it’s me,” Newton said. “The expectations, the playing style, the pressure—now it’s time to break through.”

Allen has often been compared to Newton due to their similar play styles, with both relying heavily on their strong-armed passing combined with a deft rushing ability.
