Spokane Native Nearly Pulls Off Upset as Late Addition to WNBA Three Point Contest

Jul 19, 2025 2:17 PM EDT

On the morning of July 18, just a few hours before the WNBA All-Star three point contest, it was announced Spokane native and Indiana Fever guard Lexie Hull would replace her teammate Caitlin Clark in the event.

Hull wasn’t just chosen to give Fever fans someone to root for after Clark’s unfortunate absence, she’s a lights out three point shooter who is hitting 46.8% of her threes this year while averaging a career-high 7.6 points and 4.7 rebounds.

Hull started slow in the event, but made eight of her last ten shots and finished with 20 points – not quite enough to advance to the final round between Sabrina Ionescu and Allisha Gray, who each scored 25 in the first round.

Ionescu ultimately won after scoring 30 in the final round to comfortably beat Gray and her 22 points.

“It’s awesome, so fun,” Hull told IndyStar reporter Chloe Peterson after the game. “The fans are great, I definitely felt them, heard them. I wish I could do it again right now, because I feel like I was so nervous at the start. All of us were, but it was just a fun experience. Really proud to be a part of it, proud to represent the Fever. It has been a fun weekend.”

Hull was born in Spokane and raised in Liberty Lake. She starred at Central Valley high school in Spokane Valley, leading the Bears to a pair of state titles and twice being named the Washington state Gatorade Player of the Year.

Hull had an offer to join coach Lisa Fortier’s Gonzaga team, but opted instead to play for Tara VanDerveer at Stanford where she was a national champion and three-time All-Pac-12 selection before going No. 6 overall in the 2022 WNBA draft.

Hull faced Gonzaga three times in her college career, with her best performance coming in 2019 when she dropped 20 points in an overtime win in Palo Alto.
