Lakers star LeBron James tells Kevin Durant one aspect he has yet to master

LeBron James is widely considered to be one of the greatest all-around players to ever step foot on a basketball court. The four-time MVP has very few holes in his game as he has turned some of his weaknesses into strengths as his legendary career has progressed.

The Los Angeles Lakers star -- and Hall of Famer Steve Nash -- recently hosted Kevin Durant on their "Mind the Game" podcast. After the Houston Rockets' newest star praised his mid-range jumper, James labeled it as the one aspect of basketball he believes he has yet to master.

"To be honest, it's something I haven't been able to master in my career," Los Angeles Lakers' star LeBron James stated. "I work on it, improved, yeah, but when you talk about going left and then going right and being efficient -- going left with my middy, I feel really effective with that. I feel like I got great balance with it... I can go straight up and down going left. I can fade out. All the power is over there."

"Going right has always been a little -- sometimes, my balance is off. Sometimes, I don't know if I should fade on the shot or if I should go straight up and down. And it's always kind of f**ked with me mentally. Even though I work on all of them. But, obviously, when you get into the fray, you don't want the defense to dictate what you want to do, obviously."

James praised Chris Paul's ability to get into his pocket going to the right, noting that it is something that he personally struggles to do. While the four-time NBA champion believes that he has yet to master the mid-range, he has shown plenty of growth shooting from the mid-range.

In fact, the 2024-25 season marked the first time in his career that he shot better than 50.0% from 10-16 feet. James shot 43.6% on 218 from the mid-range last season. That marked a 10.9% improvement from the previous year. The 2010-11 season, where he shot 44.6% from the mid-range, was the only time he shot better from that distance during his 22-year NBA career.
