Miles Mikolas expected to make Cardinals trade decision

While the St. Louis Cardinals have plenty of options that could be traded at the 2025 MLB trade deadline, there is one option that has a lot more say in whether he stays or goes.

Miles Mikolas has a say in the Cardinals' trade deadline plans, and according to Katie Woo of The Athletic, he is expected to shut down any trade. He has a no-trade clause and is planning to invoke it.

"Mikolas has a full no-trade clause." Woo writes. "It's improbable he waives it, even if the Cardinals entertain offers on him."

The Cardinals have a strong rotation, but could be looking to move on from one of their veterans on an expiring deal. Despite the Cardinals' intentions to trade Mikolas, he will likely shut down any trade the Cardinals try to make.

It's an unfortunate situation for the Cardinals, as Mikolas has struggled this season for the Cardinals. In his 16 starts, Mikolas has a 4.76 ERA and a 4-5 record. He has negative 0.1 WAR and has struck out just 56 batters in 81.1 innings pitched.

The two-time Cardinals All-Star is struggling this season, just as he did the past two years. In 2023, Mikolas had a 4.78 ERA, and in 2024, he had a 5.35 ERA. Even though he's struggled for the Cardinals, they would likely have some teams interested in him.

Whether the Cardinals are interested in trading Mikolas or not, he'd decline any trade he'd be involved in. Mikolas has all of the control thanks to his full no-trade clause. That puts the Cardinals in a tough spot, as they're stuck with him for the remainder of the year.
