Why Milan are prepared to wait for Hojlund and Vlahovic

Recent reports indicate that Rasmus Hojlund and Dusan Vlahovic are the leading targets for Milan’s vacant centre-forward role this summer, but the Rossoneri could leave it until the end of the transfer window to strike a deal with Manchester United or Juventus. Here’s why.

Milan are on the lookout for a new centre-forward to come in and compete and rotate with Santiago Gimenez, who is currently the only senior centre-forward on the club’s books.

It has been a busy transfer window for the Rossoneri, who have already brought the arrivals of Ardon Jashari, Luka Modric, Samuele Ricci, Pervis Estupinan, Pietro Terracciano and soon to be Zachary Athekame as well.

There have been suggestions that if Max Allegri is provided with a proven and reliable goalscorer, then his side will be genuine challengers for the Scudetto next season, particularly given that they have no European commitments to hold them back either.

Still, with only one centre-forward in the squad, it is no surprise that Milan are on the lookout for new additions.

However, according to reports from La Gazzetta dello Sport, it is possible that Milan leave it right until the end of the transfer window to strike a deal for a new centre-forward.

As the Pink Paper puts it, Milan are confident that the longer the window goes on, the more desperate other teams will be to offload some of their unwanted players. That seems to be the case for both Vlahovic and Hojlund, neither of whom are particularly wanted by their current employers.

With Hojlund at Manchester United, the feeling is that he will become definitively surplus to requirements if Benjamin Sesko is brought in, which could help Milan to negotiate a lower fee.

Similarly at Juventus, if Randal Kolo Muani is brought back in, following the earlier arrival of Jonathan David, then there will be no room for Vlahovic, particularly on his current salary.
