Why is Josh Allen wearing a visor? Bills' QB adds new piece of equipment in Week 3

The Buffalo Bills and their fans held their collective breath last week after superstar quarterback Josh Allen ran off the field in a hurry following a play against the New York Jets.

It was later discovered that Allen had taken a hard shot to his nose, which started to gush blood as a result. The Bills' training staff quickly fixed Allen up and he then returned to the game shortly after.

When the Bills released their first injury report of the week, Allen was not on it, so there are no lingering effects from his bloody nose outside of some bruising.

"We can breathe, so it's good," Allen said of his nose after the game. "Yeah, it was a weird one. It's still kind of going on, but we'll be all right."

On Thursday night, Allen is sporting a new piece of equipment on his helmet. Here's why he's rocking the visor in Week 3 against the Miami Dolphins.

Why is Josh Allen wearing a visor?

Allen is wearing a visor in a game for the first time in his NFL career in order to give some added protection for his nose.

"Yeah, we'll see. We'll probably wear it in the game, just trying to get used to it," Allen said during the week.

This isn't the very first time Allen has used a visor, though.

The Bills quarterback has worn one in practice in the past and he sported a clear visor during his days at Wyoming.

"Your voice kind of echoes off of it too," Allen said of wearing the visor. "So, it's just, it's a little bit weirder."

Allen has been the butt of jokes during the week, with offensive lineman Spencer Brown saying his nose has gotten bigger and now rivals that of teammate Joey Bosa, who has cracked jokes about the size of his own nose in the past.

"It's definitely bigger, it's definitely bigger," Brown said of Allen's nose. "He looks like (Joey) Bosa now."

"Yeah, his nose didn't get any bigger, I don't think," head coach Sean McDermott quipped on Monday. "It's always looked good to me. I think it still looks good. I think we're in a good spot."

Allen responded to the jokes, saying he's now "the third Bosa brother in the league," so he's taking it all in stride, as you'd expect.
