Washington Commanders Roster Moves: Drake Jackson’s 21-day practice window opened

The Washington Commanders announced they have opened the 21-day practice window for DE Drake Jackson. He was signed on October 15 and was placed on injured reserve the next day. Jackson is returning from a patellar tendon injury in 2023 that required surgery and caused him miss the entire season last year.

Drake Jackson was drafted in the second round in 2022 by the San Francisco 49ers. The former USC defensive end is coming to the right place if he wants an opportunity to get some playing time. The Commanders have already placed three DEs on injured reserve including Week 1 starters Deatrich Wise and Dorance Armstrong.

Jackson now has three weeks to practice with the team, and get activated, to play during the last part of a disappointing season. Jackson signed a cheap, 1-year contract, but could easily be re-signed if he’s healthy and he gets the opportunity to show the talent that got him drafted early a few years ago. Commanders GM Adam Peters was the assistant GM for the 49ers when Jackson was drafted, and could get him on a very reasonable deal if this trial run shows potential.
