If it wasn't already apparent that we are in the dog days of the college football calendar, the ongoing spats between media personalities are a prime indicator.
Over the past couple of days, ESPN's Paul Finebaum has been receiving some pushback for comparing Texas quarterback Arch Manning to former Florida Gators star, Tim Tebow. Finebaum predicted that Manning, who has started just two games in his career, will be a Heisman Trophy finalist and have Texas in a position to contend.
He even went as far as to say Manning is the best college football quarterback since 2006. During Finebaum's appearance on "First Take," analyst Kevin Clark suggested that Finebaum look up Cam Newton on Wikipedia, clearly indicating that he disagrees.
A comment that Finebaum wasn't too fond of, and one that led to him possibly exposing a private conversation between himself and former Florida and Ohio State coach Urban Meyer about Newton's time in Gainesville.
“I actually covered Cam Newton at Auburn, and I was actually quite aware of why he left the University of Florida,” Finebaum quipped. “You might call Urban Meyer, he'll be happy to tell you...Because he told me. Cam Newton is the worst guy he has ever dealt with in his college career. Now, that’s saying a great deal considering some of the 30-for-30s that have been done on a few of his other players, but I just wanted to make that point."
Finebaum also went on to call Newton, who ultimately left Florida after being caught with a stolen computer, selfish. Finebaum expressed that Newton's way of success was done selfishly, unlike Tebow, or how he thinks Manning will find his success.
It's unclear when Meyer said this or if he ever thought it'd see the light of day, but it's clearly out there now.
Considering Newton is very outspoken, especially when others speak about him, he will surely have something to say about this.
