DJ Campbell, OL
Campbell was in full pads today as evidenced by his leg pads being on during the media availability.
DJ Campbell speaking to the media, says his biggest focus for this upcoming season is to add more consistency.
Campbell says Brandon Baker reminds him a lot of Kelvin Banks: “He’s a technique freak. He’s doing everything fundamentally right.”
How did Campbell’s freshman year snaps help him prepare for this season?: “I know what it takes to win and know what it takes to lead.”
Campbell: “Whether we’re in shells or in full pads, I’m trying to execute 100%. It’s about consistency first.”
What’s the excitement level to get another shot at Ohio State? Campbell: “First stop on the revenge tour.”
“He’s a great teacher. He’s not just a coach,” Campbell said about OC and offensive line coach Kyle Flood. “He has us learn and know what we’re doing.”
Campbell on the center position: “I really don’t see much different from Jake (Majors) and Cole (Hutson). Cole is doing a great job of stepping into that center role.”
Neto Umeozulu is one of Campbell’s best friends in the locker room, and said that watching him develop over the years has given Neto the chance to showcase at practice now as a starter.
Quintrevion Wisner, RB
Wisner: “DJ (Campbell) is an O-Lineman we look to whenever we need juice to get going in practice and on gameday.”
Is DJ Campbell the nastiest lineman? Wisner: “I’d say he is.”
Wisner on wearing No. 5: “My dad, my mom, my brother, my sister, and me. It’s us 5.”
How can Wisner take his game to another level? “Definitely staying healthy. Keeping my body healthy.” — “Another thing that can take my game to another level is my open field tactics.”
Wisner admits Rickey Stewart Jr. beats him in the speed department, at least when looking at their freshman years: “He’s good with adversity. Not many freshmen you see come in can face adversity and keep going. Rickey doesn’t shut down.”
Wisner on how Arch Manning has looked: “Like a madman. That’s my dog. 16. Arch looks good. He’s doing a better job also of being a vocal leader, whether it’s the defense or the offense. He’s definitely stepped up.”
“It doesn’t really mean anything” was Wisner’s response to what being the only returning 1000 yard rusher in the SEC means to him.
Wisner: “At the end of the day, everybody can rush for 1000 yards, it’s who’s going to do it again.”
Liona Lefau, LB
Lefau: “I’d say the biggest difference is the transition of being the young guy to being the older guy in year two to year three.” — “We know how much of an impact it is to bring younger guys along.”
Lefau says he’s seen good play from TyAnthony Smith and Elijah Barnes: “I’m thankful for Ty pushing us every single day, bringing the right energy, bringing the right juice.”
Lefau: “We hope to pick it up from where we left off last year and hopefully step it up a notch.”
Lefau says Brad Spence is a very “physical and violent player. He’s exciting to watch.”
Lefau on CJ Baxter: “He’s doing a great job picking up where he left off.”
Lefau: “Whatever we can do to help the team, that’s what we want to do. So if they need me to pass rush, I’ll pass rush. We have a lot of great pass rushers, so I’m probably going to play off the ball a lot more.”
Malik Muhammad, CB
Muhammad: “I’m way more confident. Going into my third year… really settling in and have the feel and the gist of college football.”
Muhammad on Duane Akina: “To be that age and still have that juice and still run around at practice, fly around the field and have that energy, it’s great.”
Muhammad: “I don’t take an opponent lightly, whether it’s the No. 1 team in the country, the No. 3 team in the country, or an unranked opponent.”
Muhammad: “Graceson (Littleton), man, physical. Plays with fanatical effort. Smart. Is about his business. Is just consistent on and off the field.”
Muhammad on Warren Roberson: “Great technique, explosive, physical at the point of attack. He just plays hard and with fanatical effort.”
Muhammad is currently checking in at 187 pounds with about 5% body fat.
I asked Malik if this year was a contract year for him.
After a five second pause, “I don’t want to speak too much about it. I want to focus on the process right now. But I’ve got that in mind.” https://t.co/3LS9RdP1AM
