Kyrie Irving reveals Kevin Durant was behind Nets hiring Steve Nash

Kyrie Irving and Kevin Durant made the decision to join forces on the Brooklyn Nets ahead of the 2019-20 season. While the duo both played great from an individual standpoint, their tenure will be remembered for their inability to win a championship and plenty of off-the-court issues.

The superstars have long faced criticism from fans and the media, with many claiming that they had too much control within the organization. Irving recently fired back at that claim, revealing that he had no power.

He also shared an interesting tidbit on the hiring of head coach Steve Nash, which drew plenty of criticism. The nine-time All-Star shared that his co-star was behind the decision.

"This is your mans," Dallas Mavericks guard Kyrie Irving stated Tuesday. "This is your mans. So, I got to support that this is your mans. Cool. You want him? Cool. You like Steve, I love Steve. Cool. As a younger brother, I'm like, okay, I don't care. That's fine. You want Steve to coach? That's fine, but when you're committed to the same goal and then a year changes things and then things going on behind the scenes, come on."

Nash and the Nets agreed to part ways just seven games into the 2022-23 season -- his third leading the franchise. Irving was traded later that year as the organization refused to offer him a max contract. His departure led to Durant also being moved ahead of the trade deadline.

While Brooklyn appeared to be a legitimate title contender, there was plenty that went wrong -- with many suggesting that the Nash hire sits near the top of the list. Both Irving and Durant continue to play at a high level, however, their former head coach has not had another opportunity since parting ways with the Nets.
