Training camp is now under a week away for the Washington Commanders, and we are still no closer to a resolution for star receiver Terry McLaurin and his desire for a new contract.
We aren’t exactly sure what the holdup is, but one thing is for certain: Terry isn’t in a good mood about it.
Stating he wants to remain a Commander, the front office and Adam Peters don’t appear to be in any hurry to tie down their star receiver to a new deal, which makes training camp a must-watch for Terry.
Having already skipped OTAs and minicamp, training camp looms as the last arrow in McLaurin’s quiver. And for NFL.com, the contract watch is Washington’s biggest training camp storyline.
“Will Terry McLaurin show up? All is well in the nation’s capital after the Commanders’ surprising 2024 campaign — that is despite McLaurin’s contract kerfuffle with management,” NFL.com writes. “McLaurin could probably wait until the 11th hour before Week 1 to sign and be good to go out of the gate. But after the good vibes of the ’24 season, the last thing the Commanders want is their upstanding star WR spending any time away from the team entering 2025.”

Everything Peters and head coach Dan Quinn have touched since arriving last season has turned to gold, but this situation is getting messy now.
McLaurin’s clear frustration in speaking about his status midweek wouldn’t have pleased the front office, but they need to get on the front foot and pay a player many deem, including us, to be perhaps one of Washington’s best offensive weapons.
Given how good things have been traveling aside from McLaurin’s contract saga, it looms as the final piece of business the Commanders have to get done before the decks are cleared for a Super Bowl assault.
But until McLaurin’s future gets sorted – in the form of a deal that pays him over $30 million APY – there will be a dark cloud (once again) hanging over Washington.
