What is Deion Sanders' end game in college football?
When "Primetime" first put on a headset for Jackson State in 2020, it was out of circumstance. Even if Deion tried to spin the move as an attempt to bring glory back to HBCUs, his real motivation was getting to coach his sons, Shedeur and Shilo, at the collegiate level. Travis Hunter was a tremendous bonus.
The pivot to Colorado was intended to gain resources to help execute his plan on a more prominent stage.
Even with his decades-long disdain for the media, Deion loves the attention and knows simply existing in a major conference would generate endless buzz.
But it's this never-ending quest for self-preservation that has one football figure questioning Deion's future in Boulder.
While a guest on the "Maggie and Perloff" show, QB guru Quincy Avery challenged Deion's motives to remain with the Buffs.
"At one point this year, it's going to get really difficult, and Deion will have to make a real decision," Avery said. "Was he doing this the whole time to prop his son up to help him become a top-tier quarterback, or because he really cares about the kids? He's never coached a team his sons did not play for. So many of the things that he does are about him and not other people. We get to see who he is as a person when he has to take on this team without his sons involved."
If Deion truly cared about his standing at Colorado and helping turn the school into a national powerhouse, he wouldn't feed into the rumors of leaving every time another prominent job opens up.
He operates in the "now" business and whatever is convenient for him at any given time. Deion can't even be bothered to go on many home visits to try to lure recruits to his squad.
Whether it's a move to an SEC power or a leap to the NFL ranks, don't be shocked when Deion jumps ship within the next two years.
