2027 No. 1 recruit LaDamion Guyton commits to Texas Tech

The No. 1 overall recruit in the class of 2027 LaDamion Guyton has committed to Texas Tech, he announced Thursday. The Savannah (GA) Benedictine Military School product announced his pledge at his high school, giving the Red Raiders their first commit in the next recruiting cycle.

Guyton chose Texas Tech over a top four that included powerhouse names such as Tennessee, Florida State and Georgia.

Tech shakes up the recruiting world… again

After putting together a strong 2026 class, the Red Raiders get 2027 rolling hot earning the pledge of the class’ top-ranked recruit. Guyton is a consensus 5-star across all three major recruiting services.

He is the third 5-star prospect to commit to Joey McGuire and the Red Raiders. Guyton is following in the footsteps of Micah Hudson (2024) and Felix Ojo (2026). Those two were the top-ranked prospects in the state of Texas. Similarly, Guyton shares this honor in the Peach State.

Guyton committed to Tech with help from a “Cannon”

The 5-star EDGE committed to Texas Tech, which would not have been possible without the presumed efforts of QB commit Stephen Cannon. The two have yet to play a single snap together. Guyton is transferring from Savannah Christian to Benedictine this upcoming school year.

Cannon has been a heavy online recruiter for his future school and Guyton was no exception for the QB. Guyton visited Lubbock this summer for a weekend camp, taking in the facilities and getting a family feel around the program. This event jumpstarted his recruitment and helped Tech wedge a place at the table amongst some of the nation’s biggest and baddest.

With players such as top-ranked QB Kavian Bryant and 5-star Cooper Hackett potentially next in the fold, the Red Raiders’ 2027 class could shape out to be one of the program’s best all-time.
